The Counselling Skills Diploma Course will help you begin your
journey towards becoming a counsellor. You will be introduced to
the core concepts of counselling, what the role involves and the
skills used in and the importance of active listening. One of the
most important, if not the most important, aspects of being a good
counsellor is the ability to build a relationship of mutual trust
and openness with your clients and to establish a strong
counsellor-client bond. Through this, both parties will be
successful in helping the client to reach their goals. This course
guides you through acquiring the skills needed to facilitate this,
the importance of the first interview with a client, the tasks a
counsellor should be mindful of when interviewing, and the concept
of non-directive interviewing. Further to this, the Counselling
Skills Diploma Course outlines the personal skills that make a good
counsellor. You will also learn important and essential theories on
motivation and empathy that should be applied in counselling, to
encourage success and further strengthen the counsellor-client
relationship. As a counsellor, you will work with people suffering
from grief and bereavement. Through studying this course, you will
learn to recognise and analyse the various ways in which people
react to the loss of a loved one and how grief and the grieving
person should be managed. You‚ will explore the common stages of
grief and gain an understanding of the symptoms of complicated
grief reactions, which require a more in-depth level of
counselling. Other areas that you will find yourself helping
clients with include stress, anxiety and depression. The
Counselling Skills Diploma Course explains the two categories of
stress symptoms (eustress and distress) and the issues and symptoms
of depression and anxiety. You‚ will explore the process of
recognising negative thinking and turning it into positive thinking
and how positive thinking can be used to restore self-esteem. You‚
will also look at an interview excerpt between a counsellor and a
client with depression, which shows the use of a CBT approach and
how this can aid the client.
